Ringing the bell

I wanted to find a service project for the kids and me during this week that we're off school, so, I signed us up to ring for The Salvation Army. The kids did pretty well and didn't complain much, until the end. And, I felt for them by that point. Even my toes were freezing by the time we were done!

I choose The Salvation Army for one reason. When we were with my grandmother a couple of years ago, she told me a story about my grandfather and his time during WWII. She said that when he was in the hospital after getting wounded, the Red Cross came through and offered cigarettes to all of the wounded with a "get well wish." Later, he said, The Salvation Army went through and offered clothes, blankets, food and (of course) cigarettes. All things that the soldiers actually needed. He told my grandmother that if she wanted to give to a charity, to give to The Salvation Army.

So, today's ringing was my way of thanking The Salvation Army for helping my grandfather and other soldiers wounded during WWII. I also hope that we were able to honor my grandfather in some way for his service to our country.

You guys are the cutest people I have ever seen ring that bell. What a great way to give back.

Great story Kathi and a great way to serve. I must say that in that picture, Brianna does not look pleased. She looks a lot like my 13 year old.
